Be Astonished this Lent…
During Winter, much of the world goes to sleep, but then spring comes and the picture changes. Everywhere we look life starts to wake up. In the big picture, as earth leans towards the sun, the days grow longer.
This lengthening light lets plants and animals know "it's time to wake up", and little by little, to come back to life.
That's where the word "Lent" comes from; it's an old word for the lengthening days of Spring.
40 days to wake up from winter.
40 days to walk humbly with God.
40 days to picture resurrection.
40 days to rise, and reach,
and little by little...
come back to life on Easter morning.
2025 Lenten Devotional
This project was imagined by the Wednesday Morning Study group, that wanted to engage the congregation in spiritual practice of daily devotional. Contributors were asked to submit something original (e.g., reflection, poetry, art, photography) or something previously published that is meaningful to them. This is the result of our collective labors. Much thanks to Don DaRos, Amber Dawne Bigley and all our contributors.
The devotional is available electronically for viewing or to download. A printed copy can be requested through the church office.
Holy Week Services
Holy Week begins on April 13th with our Palm Sunday Service. Palm Sunday recalls Jesus entering into Jerusalem; a reminder of the welcoming of Jesus into our hearts and of our willingness to follow him. This is a Hands on Faith Sunday!
Our Maundy Thursday Service is April 17th at 7:00pm in our Sanctuary. Maundy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter, is observed in commemoration of Jesus Christ and the Last Supper with the Apostles.
Our Good Friday Service will be held at 12:00pm on April 18th at First Church. Good Friday commemorates and offers time to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus and his death.
Easter Sunday, April 20th, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at 6:00am with our community Sunrise Service at Sunrise Park. All are welcome to attend this moving sunrise service.
Our Easter Celebration Service will be held at 10:00am in our Sanctuary on Easter Sunday. All are welcome to join us. Christ is Risen!
