The Coventry Choir, under the co-direction of Catherine Moulton and Brian Parks (Fellow of the American Guild of Organists and former Minister of Music at First Church), will present a free concert at First Church on Saturday, May 25 at 4 PM.
The Coventry Choir is made up of youth musicians of Marietta First United Methodist Church, a metropolitan parish in northwest Atlanta of some 4,000 members. The choir, founded in 1966 by Lindell DeJarnett, is composed of singers and instrumentalists in grades 6-12 and is now on its 57th annual tour. On tours, they live collaboratively, engage in direct-impact missional work, build community through music and worship, and experience different parts of the world through the world's living communities.
They will be singing works that include the modern Gospel tradition as well as early monodic Anglican liturgical chant. Other featured composers include Leonard Cohen; Mark Miller; John Bell; Brian Parks; S.S. Wesley; Richard Smallwood; and T. L. de Victoria. The Choir will also lend its gifts to morning worship at First Church on Sunday, May 26 at 10 AM.
