Parish Care

Ways of showing God's love in caring for one another...

In any human community, the needs for care and compassion are great. Among us, there are those who are sick, convalescing or homebound, and some who simply feel isolated or lonely.  There are those who are bereaved and adjusting to a loss, and some who are going through difficult transitions of other kinds.  There are newcomers, and first time parents, single parents and parents of sick children…there are needs of all kinds around us everyday.

At First Church, our common life is drawn from a gospel of “good news.” Our conviction is that God’s love and healing works within us and through us to strengthen faith and hope in a time of need.

Among the ministries that our Parish Care Team offers are: visitation, monthly mid-week Communion luncheon, prayer chain, home communion, flowers, meals, recordings of church services, transportation, church library, and The Carter Fund (for cancer treatments).

Mid-Week Communion Luncheons begin October 4th, 2017, at 12 noon in the Ebenezer Gay Room on the first floor.  They are held the first Wednesday of every month.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry

We meet on the first Tuesday of each month beginning in October.

Knitters and Crocheters are invited to join us at 10 am in the Smith Chapel.

If you are not able to join us, completed prayer shawls may be dropped off in the Chapel. Please make an entry into the journal about the completed shawl.

Do you know someone who is in need of a prayer shawl? Stop by the Prayer Shawl Corner in the Chapel and choose a prayer shawl.  Please make a note in the journal, so that we can continue to pray for the recipients of the shawls.

Not a knitter or crocheter? Please feel free to make a donation to the Prayer Shawl Ministry, so that we can purchase yarn for additional shawls.
