When are worship services?

Sundays at 10:00am from September – June. Beginning in July we worship at 9:00am either in the Sanctuary or the Smith Chapel.  During the five Sundays in August (or the first week in September) we participate with the Suffield Christian community at First Baptist on Hill Street at 10am.

Do you offer child care?

Child care for infants and toddlers and preschoolers is provided in our Nursery during all services, except in the months of July and August. A minimum of two adults are always present according to our Safe Church policy.

What about Sunday school?

Our Sunday School program is called Hands on Faith.  Children and youth from K through grade 7, are welcome to join in on the fun! Hands on Faith is an integenerational, experiencial, hands on program that begins at 10am in Fellowship Hall and meets the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. On the 1st and 3rd Sundays children and youth, worship in the Sanctuary.  All classes are taught by teachers adhere to our Safe Church Policy.

What if I want to keep my children with me during the service?

This is your choice. Clipboards with drawing paper and crayons are kept in baskets at the entrances to the Sanctuary to help keep little hands busy. In addition, the adjoining Ebenezer Gay room is wired for sound, so if you decide you need to leave the Sanctuary for any reason, you can enjoy the service from there.

Do you have a Coffee Hour?

Yes! But it isn't an hour! On most Sundays, an informal time of fellowship is held in the Ebenezer Gay room following worship. We encourage everyone to join us.  On special occasions we celebrate with a more formal Silver Tea.

I’d like to know about your Confirmation classes.

Our 14-month confirmation program for grades 8-12.  Our program is divided into two parts.  The first part has been designed to connect young people  with their faith through exploring topics that are relevant to them through small group discussions, field trips, and a weekend retreat.  The second half is a six week intensive called Nuts and Bolts on the basic elements of religion and church life.

I’m interested in joining a Bible Study group.

All are welcome at our Wednesday Morning Bible Study held in the Ebenezer Gay Rooml from 10:00-11:15am.  The program is for everyone and anyone who is curious about the Bible and other aspects of theology.  Our intent is to have fun and expand our understanding through discussion.

A program is also held during Lent.

Is the church handicap accessible?

Our Sanctuary, the Ebenezer Gay room, Fellowship Hall, and a unisex bathroom, are all accessible by wheelchair.  Handicap parking is available at both the street and basement levels of the Church. Priority parking is available for those who are not handicapped, but do have difficulty accessing the church. Large print bulletins and headsets are both available for those with other special needs.

How do I become a member of First Church?

When you are ready to join, we have a new member orientation designed to enhance your knowledge of all that we offer.  New member classes are generally held in the Fall and Spring. A special Silver Tea follows the reception of new members.

How often do you Serve Communion?

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is held during worship on the first Sunday of the month.  All are welcome to partake.  Communion is most often served to the congregation in the pew.  Children, if present, are welcome to partake at the discretion of their parents or guardians.
