Our Continuing Journey - 2017
Reflections from our Congregation

Open and Affirming Statement

“In Christ there is no longer Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for all are one…”(Galatians 3:28)

After a year of discussion, education and discernment, the members of The First Church of Christ, Congregational in Suffield, Connecticut declare that we are an Open and Affirming congregation. We welcome all people to join us in our journey of faith. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

As an Open Congregation
We open our doors and invite everyone to join us in this challenging and exciting commitment. We want everyone to feel welcome to participate in membership, leadership and employment. We intend to provide a safe physical, emotional and spiritual haven and commit to make every part of our building and our church life accessible to all people.

As an Affirming Congregation
We affirm that each individual is a child of God, worthy of God’s love and our love. We celebrate the total identity of each person regardless of ancestry, origin, age, economic status, physical/mental ability, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. As a congregation “In the Community, For the Community” we strive to extend an extravagant welcome to each person who seeks to serve and follow in Christ’s footsteps.
As a declared Open and Affirming Congregation
We commit to work toward ending ignorance, fear, hatred, prejudice and discrimination against people perceived to be different including our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members and friends. We commit to a spirit of hospitality and a willingness to live out that welcome in meaningful ways.
